It's November. The outdoor furniture has been stored away and the garden has been put to bed for the season. Once I get all the outdoor stuff wrapped up, I always love to get the inside of the house ready for the winter. In the interest of full disclosure, I LOVE to rearrange furniture.
I do it for a living and I do it no less than 6-10 times a year at home. I move furniture from one room to the next, switch things out, store stuff, bring it back out two weeks later....it's a sickness, but it's one of the things that makes me good at my job. During this time of year, I like to make the house feel as warm, cozy and inviting as possible. I push the furniture a little closer together to make more intimate seating arrangements, I layer in throws and pillows, pull out some candles and stack up some firewood in anticipation of the first fire of the season. I start flipping through old recipe boxes and cookbooks, making plans to try some new discoveries and rediscovering some old favorites. It really is my favorite time of year. I'm a stickler for celebrating this season. It gets glossed over pretty regularly these days, and while I'll admit Christmas decorating plans have been swirling about in my mind for several months, I vow that not 1 strand of tinsel will be hung before I awake from my turkey and dressing induced coma. Happy Fall! xo Greg
